Online blackjack

Don't feel that blackjack is limited to a casino. There are a variety of ways to get started with the fun card game such as online or video electronic blackjack, which combines the game with online gambling. The house usually the house wins in online blackjack but this is not reason enough not to attempt to play, as winning is still a real possibility! A fresh shoe is dealt out from each coup in video blackjack games which means counting cards is extremely difficult. But online blackjack is a great way to brush up on your gambling skills and sharpen your strategy, which can assist you in beating the dealer. Plus the house edge is non-existent!

What is blackjack?

The card game blackjack can be played in any casino or it can be played as video blackjack on the internet. People all over the world play blackjack mainly because of its winning combination of skill, luck and strategy. The principle aim of blackjack is to make a hand without heading over the total and beating the dealer. Every card is worth other amounts with the cards from two through to 10 equalling their amount, the jack, queen and king which are known as face cards and worth 10 and aces being used for either one or 11 depending. If your first two cards total up to 21 points, you are proclaimed the winner with the card total called a 'blackjack'.

A history of the blackjack game

The game we now know as 'blackjack' began as a game called 'twenty-one', which was highlighted in a book penned by Miguel de Cervantes. The Spanish wordsmith noted that the game 'ventiuna' (meaning 21 in Spanish) centred on attaining twenty one points before going bust. In today's day and age we refer to a hand of blackjack as being any hand with an ace and a ten or a face card, not necessarily the jack of spades or jack of clubs, that totals 21. Blackjack is played all over the world and it is incredibly popular online as it has almost no house edge. The game is dealer versus player so there's no need to get wound up about the hands that other players have at all.

Playing blackjack

The initial step when playing blackjack is to draw up the rules of betting and decide on the relevant playing table. The next step is to purchase chips from the card dealer, put down your bet and then have cards dealt to you. The aim is to get a hand value of 21 or close to but not having cards which total more than 21 and ultimately, beating the dealer with your score. The cards which are numbered are linked to their face value while the aces can be either one 1 or 11 points and the queen, jack and king all have a value tallying ten.

Blackjack rules

When getting involved in a game of blackjack in a casino you will be asked to place your bet initially prior to receiving your cards. It won't make a difference if you show your hand to other players or even the croupier because the dealer cannot affect the way his hand is played at any point. The rules vary according to the casino you are in and you might be playing 'dealer stands on all 17s' for instance, where the dealer gets cards until he hits 17 or above or you could play 'dealer hits soft 17' where the participants have to wait until a soft total of 17 is reached by the dealer. At the most basic level the dealer must keep on playing until he gets to a minimum of 17 or gets more than 21 and busts.
